As of year 2008, citations are issued using either paper forms, the new JTAC-developed eCWS (Electronic Citation and Warning System), or (in some police agencies) other vendor-based electronic citation solutions. eCWS, the statewide citation repository, and Odyssey will effectively provide a statewide citation tracking system for Indiana. While these systems are in their infancy, rapid progress is being made (with 120,000 electronic citations issued to date). JTAC is also involved with a project to produce a statewide uniform paper citation form that will be based on eCWS. Ideally, any future use of paper citation forms will replace the variety of forms in use now with a single, uniform form on a statewide basis. It is anticipated that future development, deployment and integration of these systems will provide rich potential for Indiana to develop a national model for an efficient and effective traffic citation process.
